How Tough Are You?
By admin | August 20, 2008
Ryan,
Do u think training is more physical or mental?
Larry D
Hey Larry thanks for the good question, In the case of training being more physical or mental I would have to say it is both and here is why.
The purpose for training is to prepare ourselves to perform our best and to prepare for demands we place on our body during competitions. The physical aspect of training is something that can be developed over time, but even the most highly conditioned athlete without self confidence will never ride to the best of his ability. The preparation and time we spend to better ourselves physically day in and day out while making us stronger is also preparing our mind to fight.
The Harder you train and push yourself out of your comfort zone, the more mentally prepared you are to line up on the gate knowing you have put in the work and are at your best. there will always be days were things are not going right, you may hit the gate, fall in your first moto, or get 5th in a semi. If you dont have the mental ability to push through those times and continue forward you are going to constantly not ride to your potential. Take or example last night in the Olympics if Donny Robinson had not mentally prepared himself that first quarter mistake could have ruined his olympic chances. But instead of dwelling on what happened he mentally pushed through and has now advanced to the semi finals keeping his Olympic dream alive.
Just remember there will be days when you dread riding your bike, hate lifting weights, and just all around dont want to do shit, but that is your subconscious trying to find out just how tough you really are. So you can give in and quit, or keep going and prevail, the choice is yours, how tough are you?
Check out My DVD BMX Srong with these methods you will mentally and physically be ready for anything.
Ryan,
What sprints do you think are better track sprints or 100yd street sprints?
Larry D
Awesome question, Out of the 2 sprint choices track or sprint I am a big believer in track sprints. I think if you have the choice to do one or the other anything you do on the track will be more beneficial to your training. With that being said 100 yd street sprints definetly have a place in your overall program. 100 yarders are very good for developing lactic acid tolerance, and teach you to keep pedaling in spite of fatigue. So dont limit yourself to one or the other but if it came down to riding your local track or doing sprints in the street choose the track your riding will thank you.
