BMX Training Q/A-Nutrition
By admin | November 7, 2008
Hey guys Got a really good question emailed to me the other day that I thought you might enjoy.
Trevor sent me this question regarding nutrition advice, which there seems to be alot of confusion lately about how to eat for performance check out the answer below.
Hey Ryan,
I know you have all the good excercising tips but what do you know on dieting? I looked another site and it said to eat about 6 small meals a day, rather than 2 or 3 large ones. A few things about protien, water intake, what to and not to eat, and a few other things. I am just wondering what a good meal would be that would propel the athletes abilities. This would also be a good idea for your website.
Trevor
Hey Trevor thanks for writing,
As far as diet goes I will be totally honest I am fortunate enough that I dont have to watch mine to the letter but I still lead a clean eating philosophy.
Break your day up into 3 meals breakfast, lunch, dinner and throw in 2 snacks between. here is a sample day for me
For breakfast stick to eggs oatmeal and whole wheat toast eat alot of your daily carbs at this meal-for example 3 eggs scrambled with cheese, 1 cup of oatmeal with cinnamon and a little brown sugar, and 2 pieces of whole wheat toast.
For lunch any turkey or chicken sandwich with veges(preferably green) with a small side of potato salad.
I often eat at a place called YAYAs chicken and I am a big fan of chipotle(just go easy on the rice).
Dinner I try to keep it as low carb as possible I usually grill chicken breasts and vegetables or have another type of sandwich. last night was a chili I made with whole wheat pasta.
With snacks they can be protein shakes, fruit, or nuts just something to keep your metabolism up.
I purchased a product called Precision nutrition by John Berardi it has helped me times ten and I highly recommend it. this is catered toward performance eating on limited budgets.
Race day nutrition I try to eat a good breakfast same as above, and throughout the day I like to eat peanut butter and honey on whole wheat bread with lots of fruit.
Keep your soda intake to a minumum this is key, soda will ruin your diet as well as if your old enough keep the alcohol consumption to reasonable levels. Always drink water I cant say this enough.
I live by the 80/20 principle 80% clean 20% dirty I usually eat out on the weekends and eat clean during the week. As far as eating out and drinking keep it in moderation but def dont live in a bubble and not have any fun for fear of ruining your diet.
Stay Strong Ride hard
Ryan
P.S. drink lots and lots of water

Very true. No reason to stress yourself out all the time about never drinking or partying. Life is short, you gotta enjoy it.

After reading this explanation of nutrition for a BMXer, I stongly have to disagreed with the low carb part of this advice.
The explanation above is for weight managent or weight loss for adults. BMXers are generally younger and need far more carbs than explained above.
Even a 25 year old who trains and rides regularly should be having more carbs than explained above.
I do agree with the 5 small meals a day with lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Definately drink more water and limit soda juice and even sports drinks. All full of too much sugar!
Read this article for a better explanation - The 6 Step Healthy Eating Plan:

Basically, younger athletes can have more carbs and a little less protein that we older folk.

The personal loans seem to be essential for people, which would like to ground their business. In fact, that’s not very hard to get a financial loan.
