    I agree on the ABA killing NBL…I dont race ABA but I do understand how they run the system…to be honest…they seem to cair more about the race fans than the NBL does…example being..wha in the hell is up with the Xmas classic and Presidents cup race…you have to be there the day after CHRISTMAS to get any damn practice….BOB TEDESCO pull you head out of your f*** ass!!! We love racing….love us back

    Luke,

    They def seem to care more and run the race as a business system.

    In respect to Christmas, ABA stacks theirs on Thanksgiving both of them are F@cked. Whats up with just a normal weekend?

    ABA vs NBL - While the NBL grands might not have had the attendance the ABA did - a lot of us don’t go to the Grands. Some of us are the ‘grass roots’ riders who prefer the ‘local scene’. The local tracks have become our ‘extended family’. This is why we may be ABA over NBL or vice versa.

    Trevor,

    Good Point I myself have grown up at the local track being 25 now and starting when I was 6 you get kinda attached to the people and track.

    Our local track just closed and is relocating anout 10 miles away I have to admit alot of memories at the old track its hard to see it go

    Replying to “word”

    Ive seen him beat Pros who were 50 lbs lighter than him in a sport where the stereotype is “lighter is better”. Look at every type of major sport out there, strength training is a staple of GPP, why wouldnt it be for BMX?

    Thats my question with “no answer”, comming from a non BMX rider… Why hasnt strength training been incorperated into this sport since its inception?

    @word,

    Myself personaly, are you inquiring as far as ranking in national or state?

    A little background I have been racing BMX since I was 6 years old and untill I was about 19 i was only around 170lbs and incredibly weak.

    I was always a mid pack rider who had to fight for every main I was in. I was always in 4th or 5th place, racing never came easy for me but I love being on a bike.

    I started weightlifting religously at 19 and have never looked back since , I struggled through alot of different programs until I found one that would work for BMX. I found 1 and followed it solely for 1 year it is called westside for skinny bastards and the author of it name is Joe Defranco(who now is actually a good friend of mine).

    On this program combined with track work i was able to make the 18-21(i was 21 at the time) expert main at the NBL grands this to this day is still no easy feat. it was then I decided that I wanted to turn single A by 22.

    So at 22 I got 2nd at the NBL grands in 22-29 expert after winning all day and the kid that one John Andrews was turning pro so I figured why not.

    Since then I like to consider myself very competitive in the super x class even though its tough for me to get to alot of races. as of recent I am currently 8th in the state of florida and 20 th in the nation in NBL.

    I managed to make the quarter in this years Grands only to overshoot the second pro set and fall in 4th place to my semi.

    I hope this answers your question let me know if you need any more testimony to what I do.

    1- i think dirt jumping has gotten stale. it never evolved in x-games. same old, drop/roll in to a big six pack, small 180 berm and another big double. x-games needed to evolve like the red bull events. elevation i think it was called?
    2- people don’t understand racing. they don’t understand the work that goes into it, or the dedication it takes to be at the top. aside from that, it needs to be filmed properly, and the guys at espn are used to shooting football games.they don’t understand our sport either.
    3- no tv coverage, means very few outside sponsors, which means no money for the pros…..

    i have more– but i also have crying kids– gotta roll– be back later on for the rest of my opinions

    ok sorry–

    4-olympics– the olympic coverage did nothing for this sport. the only people who stayed tuned in were already racers. there was no profiles of the american athletes, there was no background about racing.
    5- aba vs nbl–not sure–i’m in jersey which is nbl country, not a whole lotta aba exposure here

    6- i think sprints are needed, but i think differently from everyone else. i really look at my sprints as, almost a skill workout. what i’m really working on, is an efficient spin, not trying to build speed. the speed is just a nice by-product of the spin. someone told me once– “you build the engine in the gym, then tune it on the track”– do your squats and your cleans to build your strength and power, then turn it into speed by practicing your sport. i could be wrong. i’m most likelly wrong. but i like how that has worked for me.

    @Dave

    Thanks for the responses you definetly helped clear up some confusion.

    The redbull event was sick, they are def taking the sport to new levels. I mean top dirt jumpers were scared going down that hill and if their scared it had to crazy as hell in person.

    I think I might be dreaming, but we need an alcohol sponsor I mean could you imagine Budlight presenting the Pro spectacular at the NBL grands LOL. ABa brought in hyundai and NBL used to give away cars awhile back I think those days are over.

    I remeber Justin lofredo training for the X-games hill by doing a gate off a picnic table and dropping into Shoreham’s first turn. Thats some innovative thinking but you tend to think outside the box if you stand to win 40 grand.

    Totally agree on the olympics a little background/history would have gone along way.

    That is def an interesting take on sprints and your absolutely right. In my opinion people get too caught up in sprints when a little time in the weight room would go a long way. I just get sick of kids over doing it, they do 10 sets of sprints some plyos and then go ride the track for 2 hours and call it training. When 2 days a week strength training and just concentrating on getting the most out of your practice when you are at the track will go alot farther in making you get faster.

    You can only make your engine go so fast until you need to put in a larger motor.

    I guess i might be a bit spoiled living in Florida you can ride a track 4 nights a week and I always got more out of structuring my amount of first straights I do at the track.

    Keep it up man thanks for the response.

    yea man, i realize that alot more local riders have started racing because of the olympics, its lame, if your gonna ride, ride for yourself, not because its on t.v. and aba vs. nbl i like nbl better but it falls not in my favor that my local nbl track is 1 to 3 hours away , when my local aba is a 3 minute bike ride away .
